Electric vs Hybrid Cars in Irving, TX

What is an Electric Car?

Electric cars are powered by one or more electric motors that are fueled by a rechargeable battery. Electric cars are also commonly referred to as BEVs (battery electric vehicles). Electric cars offer many advantages over traditional diesel or gasoline-fueled cars. Chief among these advantages is the low cost of electricity and low budget maintenance. Currently, electricity is a far cheaper fuel source than gasoline.

Because electric cars don’t have nearly as many moving parts or constant internal wear and tear, they require far less repair or maintenance. Electric vehicles also have a lower center of gravity than traditional cars, which makes for better handling on the roadway. BEVs can be recharged either at home or at a charging station, which can be found at several different public locations all across the country. All electric cars have a specified driving range, which is how far your vehicle can travel on a full charge before needing to be recharged.

What is a Hybrid Car?

A hybrid car utilizes two different power sources simultaneously to power your car. Most often, hybrid cars use a combination of a gasoline engine and an electric motor. Because of this, plug-in hybrid cars can travel longer than BEVs on a full charge. Plug-in hybrid cars also come with larger battery packs and the added benefit of being able to run on other fuel sources aside from electricity.

Another common type of hybrid car is the “series” hybrid. A series hybrid uses traditional gasoline engine power to propel your car at higher speed and switches over to using electricity during low-speed, low-impact driving conditions like city driving. This hybrid model gives you the best of both worlds in terms of fuel-efficiency and decreased operating costs.
